Artist Statement

Artwork that is familiar enough with which to identify, but strange enough to intrigue the viewer into a prolonged engagement is what I strive to create. My paintings, prints and drawings are infused with transhumanist philosophy while maintaining an autobiographical base. Transhumanism is grounded in the concept that the human species is not restricted to what biological evolution has produced.

Through my work, I present an unfinished story about my personality and personal history. Each work is a fragment that can stand on its own while still adding to a broader story. There is an overlay of humor that colors many of the pieces. There is also an intention to give the viewers a better understanding of what type of person was behind the art that they are seeing. Each face that is drawn and painted originates with my personal features, but once completed, the painted image takes on its own features, becoming a new character with a new identity. What helps to make the work coherent are the expressions and attitudes of these new characters. Behind these characters is an honest, quirky and confrontational personality, that is the unifying center of my work.
